Ready to add a touch of elegance and creativity to your home without breaking the bank? In this DIY vlog, we're embracing the beauty of "Upcycled items" by transforming simple items into stunning home decor pieces. I'll guide you through two easy-to-follow projects: crafting delicate upcycled origami roses from repurposed book pages and upcycling a Crown Royal bottle into a chic vase. These two pieces complement each other perfectly, creating a captivating floral display that will elevate any room.

1. 5-Minute Origami Rose: A Modern Twist on a Classic Craft

Origami, the ancient art of paper folding, offers endless possibilities for creating beautiful and intricate designs. In this project, we'll put a modern spin on the classic origami rose by using ripped-out pages from an old book. This not only gives new life to discarded materials but also adds a unique, vintage touch to your origami flower craft.

Materials:

  • 6 rectangular-shaped pages from an old book
  • Scissors
  • Elastic band
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Straw for stem (optional, for shaping petals)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the paper: Carefully tear out six rectangular-shaped pages from an old book.
  2. Fold the petals: Follow an online tutorial to fold each rectangular paper into an origami rose petal.
  3. Assemble the rose: Once you have six petals, gather them together in two's and secure them with an elastic band at the base.(follow along origami rose tutorial)
  4. Shape and refine: Gently shape the petals of the rose to create a more open and natural look. You can use a straw to gently curl the edges of the petals for added dimension. Secure the base of the rose with a dab of hot glue.

Tips:

  • Choose pages with interesting text or illustrations for a unique look
  • Experiment with different sizes of rectangular paper to create roses of varying sizes
  • You can also create variations like the origami rosette for a slightly different look

2. Upcycled Crown Royal Vase: Elegance in Simplicity

Upcycling is a fantastic way to give new life to old objects and reduce waste. In this project, we'll transform an empty Crown Royal bottle into a stylish vase that perfectly complements the delicate origami roses.

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Clean and Prep: Wash and dry the Crown Royal bottle thoroughly, removing any labels.
  2. Paint: Apply a coat of white paint to the bottle and let it dry completely.
  3. Decoupage: Cut out a design from the decorative napkin that fits the front and back of the bottle.
  4. Apply Mod Podge: Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of the napkin pieces and carefully adhere them to the bottle, smoothing out any wrinkles or air bubbles.
  5. Seal: Once the Mod Podge is dry, apply a final coat over the entire napkin design to seal it.
  6. Add Twine: Wrap twine around the neck of the bottle and secure it with a dab of Mod Podge.
  7. Final Seal: Apply another coat of Mod Podge over the entire bottle to protect the paint and decoupage.
  8. Display: Arrange your origami roses in the vase and enjoy your beautiful creation!

These two simple yet stunning DIY projects demonstrate the power of creativity and resourcefulness. With just a few basic art and craft supplies, you can transform ordinary objects into beautiful home decor pieces that reflect your unique style. Whether you're an experienced crafter or just starting out, these projects offer a fun and rewarding way to create and craft something special for your home.
