6 Great Fall Crafts For Kids 8-10

Published on 12 October 2024 at 12:20

Hey everyone, fall is here and it's time to get crafty! I've got a bunch of awesome fall projects that are perfect for kids aged 8-10. These aren't your average leaf piles and pumpkin drawings (though I love those too!). I'm talking unique, exciting crafts that will let their imaginations run wild. Get ready to create some amazing keepsakes that'll remind you of these fun fall days for years to come!

1. Watercolor Fall Foliage with a Twist

  • Materials: Watercolor paints, quality watercolor paintbrushes, premium white canvas, water, pencil. (click colored words to locate correct painting supplies)
  • Instructions:
    1. Unique Circles: Instead of traditional tree shapes, encourage your child to create their fall foliage using overlapping circles of different sizes. This adds a modern and whimsical touch to the artwork.
    2. Watercolor Magic: Let them experiment with blending watercolors to create a vibrant array of autumn hues.
    3. Add Details: Once the paint is dry, they can add details like thin branches or falling leaves with a fine-tipped marker or pen.

2. Autumn Beauty

  • Materials: Printed side profile of a woman's face (download available below!), hot glue gun (adult supervision required!), pinecones, these gorgeous fall flowers I found were stunning, scissors, cardstock.
  • Instructions:
    1. Pinecone Magic: If using pinecones, watch our video tutorial on how to transform them into beautiful flower shapes.
    2. Creative Hairstyle: Let your child arrange the pinecone flowers or fall blooms on the printed woman's profile to create a stunning and unique "hairstyle."
    3. Secure with Glue: Use a hot glue gun (with adult supervision) to secure the flowers to the paper.
    4. Finishing Touches: Mount the finished artwork on colorful cardstock to create a frame.

3. Nature's Butterfly

  • Materials: Collected fall leaves (various shapes and colors), small twigs, hot glue gun (adult supervision required!), white cardstock.
  • Instructions:
    1. Winged Wonders: Arrange the leaves on the white cardstock to form butterfly wings. Encourage your child to experiment with different leaf shapes and sizes to create a unique design.
    2. Twiggy Body: Use a twig for the butterfly's body and smaller twigs for the antennae.
    3. Glue it Together: Carefully use a hot glue gun (with adult supervision) to attach the leaves and twigs to the paper.

4. Rustic Fall Centerpiece

  • Materials: Driftwood or birchwood (or any interesting piece of wood), hot glue gun (adult supervision required!), stunning artificial fall flowers (real or artificial), optional: small pinecones or acorns.
  • Instructions:
    1. Nature's Base: Use a piece of driftwood or birchwood as the base of your centerpiece. The natural shape and texture of the wood add a rustic charm.
    2. Floral Burst: Glue a cluster of fall flowers to the top of the wood.
    3. Added Touches: For extra detail, add small pinecones, leaves or acorns around the base of the flowers.

5. Leafy Lion King

  • Materials: Printed lion face, fall leaves (various colors), small twigs, orange paint (optional), glue.
  • Instructions:
    1. Majestic Mane: Have your child glue leaves or twigs around the lion's face to create a magnificent mane.
    2. Color Pop: If they want a bolder look, they can paint the leaves orange before gluing them on.

Important Notes:

  • Adult Supervision: Always supervise children when using hot glue guns or scissors.
  • Nature Walk: Make collecting leaves and twigs part of the fun! Go on a nature walk together and explore the beauty of fall.
  • Embrace Creativity: Encourage your kids to personalize these crafts with their own ideas and artistic flair.

These fall crafts are a wonderful way for your kids 8-10 years old to explore their creativity, connect with nature, and create lasting memories. Happy crafting!

6. Pinecone Flower Fall Tree

Okay, are you ready for the final fall craft that's both easy and totally Instagram-worthy? 😉 Grab a blank canvas and let's create a magical pinecone flower fall tree! It's simpler than it sounds, promise. Just snag some sticks from your backyard (or that driftwood you've been hoarding 😉), hot glue them onto the canvas as your tree trunk, and then let the kids go wild decorating with pinecones! Paint them in all those gorgeous fall colors, use some regular ones and some cut into flower shapes (like the ones in the picture!), and even toss in some colorful leaves for good measure. Want to get really fancy? Paint your canvas first with a textured fall color! Trust me, this craft is a winner for your 8-10 year olds (and you might just find yourself getting into it too!).
